Suicide Squad Isekai Streams Unconventionally with a Unique Release Schedule

Warner Bros. Japan and Wit Studio are set to introduce an exciting new anime, Suicide Squad Isekai, which merges the infamous DC Comics villains with the popular isekai (another world) genre. The series will debut in the United States on June 27, 2024, exclusively on Max and Hulu. This initial release will feature the first three episodes, followed by weekly releases until August 15.

This release strategy is part of a global launch, with Suicide Squad Isekai also premiering internationally on the same date. In South Korea, the series will be available on Aniplus and Laftel, while French audiences can watch it on ADN. Viewers in Southeast Asia, Taiwan, and Hong Kong will have access via HBO GO. Meanwhile, the anime will make its television debut in Japan on July 5 at 24:30 (effectively July 6 at 12:30 a.m.) on Tokyo MX and BS11, and it will be accessible on multiple Japanese streaming platforms including ABEMA, U-NEXT, and Anime Hōdai.

Featuring an impressive voice cast, the anime includes Anna Nagase as Harley Quinn, Yūichirō Umehara as The Joker, Reigo Yamaguchi as Deadshot, Takehito Koyasu as Peacemaker, Jun Fukuyama as Clayface, Subaru Kimura as King Shark, Taku Yashiro as Rick Flag, Kujira as Amanda Waller, Chika Anzai as Katana, Reina Ueda as Fione, Mamiko Noto as Aldora, and Jun Fukushima as Cecil. These characters are integral to the story, which places well-known DC villains in a fantastical world of swords and sorcery.

The plot begins in Gotham City, where Amanda Waller, the head of A.R.G.U.S., assembles a group of notorious criminals—Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Peacemaker, Clayface, and King Shark—for a mission. These super-villains are transported to an otherworldly realm connected to their world through a gate. In this new world, they encounter rampaging orcs and sky-dominating dragons. Upon arrival, the Suicide Squad members go on a rampage but are quickly captured by the kingdom’s soldiers and imprisoned. With bombs implanted in their necks, they have only 72 hours before they explode. To gain their freedom, they must negotiate with Queen Aldora and agree to defeat the hostile Imperial army. The stakes are high: if they run, they die; if they lose, they die. The series promises a pulse-pounding adventure as the squad fights for survival in the isekai realm.

Bringing this unique story to life is a talented creative team. Eri Osada, known for her work on Jujutsu Kaisen and Gintama, directs the series. She is joined by scriptwriters Tappei Nagatsuki, known for Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-, and Eiji Umehara. Manga artist Akira Amano, famous for Reborn! and Ron Kamonohashi: Deranged Detective, designed the original characters, while Naoto Hosoda adapted these designs for animation. Kenichiro Suehiro, who composed music for Golden Kamuy and Undead Unluck, provides the series’ soundtrack. Shinya Tsuruoka serves as the animation producer from Warner Bros. Japan.
Adding to the immersive experience, the opening theme song "Another World" is performed by Tomoyasu Hotei, while the ending theme song "Go-Getters" is performed by Mori Calliope. These musical elements complement the series' dynamic storytelling.

Suicide Squad Isekai follows a detailed release schedule to maintain viewer engagement. The ten-episode series will release the first three episodes on June 27, followed by weekly episodes: Episode 4 on July 4, Episode 5 on July 11, Episode 6 on July 18, Episode 7 on July 25, Episode 8 on August 1, Episode 9 on August 8, and the final Episode 10 on August 15.

In conclusion, Suicide Squad Isekai promises to be a groundbreaking series, blending the dark, gritty world of DC's Suicide Squad with the fantastical elements of isekai anime. With its early premiere on Max and Hulu, fans in the U.S. will get an advance look at this innovative series before it airs in Japan and other international territories. As Harley Quinn and her misfit team navigate a perilous new world, audiences can expect a thrilling blend of action, adventure, and dark humor.
